The Uptown neighborhood on Chicago's North Side is a community undergoing rapid change. In the winter of 2007, students in Jon Marshall's newswriting class at Northwestern University's Medill School spent the quarter reporting on the neighborhood's transformation. They talked with shop owners, police officers, musicians, political leaders, public housing residents, commuters, tutors, community organizers, teens, the homeless and many others to learn what is really going on in Uptown. Here are their stories, told in words, photos and videos.
